Chunciou Hotpot @ Jalan Klang Lama

When an eatery place uses the best ingredients, recipes and serves unlimited air-flown flow of meat and seafood to your table, you know it is truly going to be a satisfying Imperial's meal.

Chun Ciou Hotpot, helmed all the way from Taiwan is located along Jalan Klang Lama (aka Old Klang Road). For many who do not know how to read Chinese (e.g. bananas - like me), would most likely not realized or mistaken it as an industrial business rather than a majestic eatery place as the English signage is really small for passersby to catch.

Step inside the stand-alone two-storey building, you will be greeted by two human-sized Warrior statues. The interior is designed to replicate the historic elements of a Chinese palace with a modern touch to it.

SOUP BASE
The variety of soup-based offer is definitely going to surprise many Malaysians tastebuds.
  • Sukiyaki Soup*
  • Lakesalt Soup*
  • Tonkatsu Soup
  • Spicy Soup
  • Herbal Soup
  • Tonyam Soup
*highly recommended soup base

Sukiyaki Soup
When you have meat, you HAVE to cook them in Sukiyaki soup to further enhance the meat taste. However, the Sukiyaki soup is not recommended for drinking as it's sweet taste and "heat" may cause patrons to lose their voice for the day.

Lakesalt Soup
If you love to have a good bowl of soup after having a sumptuous meal, you should definitely go with the Lakesalt soup as the soup base before mixing it with the meat and seafood has a slight tinge of saltiness to it. Once mixed and boiled with the meat and balls, the soup becomes flavorful.

Tom Yam Soup
And if you love spicy soup base, do try out their Tom Yam soup as it has a really unique Tom Yam taste from our Malaysian and Thai version, who knows, it might just be your kind of spicy soup base.

SAUCES & CONDIMENTS
Go crazy with the sauces and condiments as there are over 10 types to pick for an enjoyable meal.
  • Thai chilli sauce*
  • Fruit sauce
  • Satay paste
  • Soy sauce
  • Sesame sauce
  • Bean curd sauce
  • Spring onion
  • Parsley
  • Garlic
  • Chopped chilli
  • Chun Ciou's signature sauce*
*highly recommended sauce

I personally dislike spring onion but I have to say Chun Ciou's Signature Sauce - a mixture of sesame sauce, spring onion, raw egg yolk and Shichimi powder is divine! Especially, when you dip the beef slices that was cooked with the Sukiyaki soup.

SELECTION OF MEAT AND SEAFOOD
Here's the main course of the party. The type of meat and steamboat ingredients for your imperial's feast is just majestic and unique. When you are feasting at Chun Ciou, be sure to order the Australian ribeye as it is the only dish that is served by the imperial guard.

Premium Meat
  • Australian Striploin*
  • Australian Ribeyes (served by an imperial guard)*
  • Lamb Shoulder Roll*
  • Pork Belly
  • Pork Shoulder
  • Chicken Fillet
  • Duck Roll
*highly recommended

Signature Meatballs (to name a few)
  • Wasabi ball
  • Black sesame mochi* (MUST TRY!)
  • Prawn ball*
  • Cuttlefish ball*
  • Cheese fish tofu
  • Taro fish ball
  • Pork tendon ball
  • Red heart ball*
*highly recommended

SIDE DISHES AND VEGETABLES
Aside from the big basket of vegetables, another side dish that you should definitely opt for when you are there is their Taiwanese Braised Pork Rice as it is the best complimentary to all the other ingredients.

DRINKS & DESSERTS
They have a wide selection of drinks to compliment your imperial meal; from soda beverages, Nestle's fruit tea selections, Nescafe's, to various types of tea.

And with the amount of food I had, I could not fill myself anymore with the desserts but if you can, help yourself to the dessert counter and enjoy their sweet lemon slices, red bean soup and ice cream.

PRICE

VERDICT
As the saying goes, "good things are meant to share". I will definitely head back to Chun Ciou Hotpot again with my friends and family because it is too good to not share it with my loved ones and that includes, you! The spacious, ancient imperial decor and array of food would definitely be the perfect place for an awesome group gathering, family night out and birthday party. In terms of pricing, trust me, it is totally worth the splurge!
