Rocking The '90s Fashion

“Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak” - Rachel Zoe

IF you still have those old hoodies or a neon color top that have been long kept in the dust. It is time for you to dig them up and put them on as the fashions from the 90s are finally hitting the runway again after 20 years.

The Divas from the 90s
“Fashion is evolutionary; it evolves from something that already exists. Meaning that nothing is ever created brand new, this is called fashion cycle” said by Rebecca Yoong, a final year fashion merchandise student. This means that regardless of which era the fashion style was from, whether it is the vintage or the preppy style, it will never really be out of style. They will only be out for a decade or so.
Though the 90s fashion are back, the 2010s fashion is not actually making a direct cloning out of the casual chic, grunge style but they are evolving it by combining it with other fashion styles from the other eras. Visualizing it yet? Think of a bright neon crop top with skinny jeans and you will realize you had seen that fashion on street just the other day. Skinny jeans are actually fashion trends from the 19th century where crop tops are from the 80s and neon color clothes are from the 90s. To welcome back the 90s fashion for being a trend again. I asked a few fashion enthusiast on how to pull off the 90s style for this year.

Neon colors
They are the most eye-catching and crowd stealing color due to its acid green, fluorescent pink or muted neon that screams feminine yet intrigue. However, too much of it could end up making you look like a disco ball. To ace these colors, pair them off with a simpler and a softer color tones such as nude or black colors that will help make the contrast. “Wear neon bright colors on the part of your body you most of all want to define, since, once the color appears on that zone, it will indeed attract attention first of all,” said Justo Ruiz, a styling and image consultant in Atelier Styling Project. Reduce any funky, neon color statement accessories as the one piece is enough to steal the attention and too much of something is never good.

                                                      Pastel colors

Besides the neon colors, pastel colors from the late 90s are in trend too. This is a fantastic choice of fashion if you are not the bold and crowd stealer kind of person. These colors are suitable for you if you want to settle for a softer, cotton candy like colors. “To wear this trend right—without looking like a jellybean – balance your ensemble with sleek neutrals and hip accessories,” said Lauren Frankfort, a Teen Vogue online fashion writer. If you want to look more fashionable, match this trend color with edgy accessories of a dark neutral color category such as black or dark brown. Pastel colors can practically suit any type of girl styles you have in mind with a pencil skirts, blazer jacket, or flats – so long as you keep Lauren’s advice in check.

Leggings
The most comfortable and common fashion wear in 2010s fashion. They are so fashionable that you can see them almost everywhere now and they had been made to look like skinny jeans. Matching up your leggings with your daily wear is easy. You can choose to match them up with almost any of your boots, top, skirt, short dresses, jackets and accessories. The only caution to it is the colors as fashion industry are slowly coming up with lots of weird prints and colors. So to nail these leggings, pick a more subdued tone color rather than the funky ones. To look more feminine, match these up with any close-up toes heels or flats.

                                                      Casual chic
The best styles from the 90s because it is where casual meets fashionable. No wonder pop bands back in those days like 'S Club 7' would wear this style often that they makes you feel so homely when you look at them. This style also brings in the touch of sophistication and classy look to your daily wear that makes you look feminine and comfortable. As long as you have denims, cotton shirts and sneakers checked, you are on the right track of casual chic. Thanks to the wide range of fashion over the years, mix and match them with other styles like a cotton shirt with a neon bright body-con skirt or a high waist denim shorts with a cotton tank top.

All in all, fashion trend varies based on places. “Big cities such as Los Angeles and New York are very open to fashion unlike the people from U.S’s Midwest where they are on the more conservative side. This is similar to Malaysia too as Ipoh boys tends to follow the branding of the Western fashion more compare to the JB boys who follows the Korea and Japan fashion more with BB cream and carries around man handbags,” said Rebecca. So, be it you are from the cities or from the countryside, fashion is all about what you as consumers like. There is no right or wrong fashion style; there are only right and wrong ways to wearing it. So, go out and rock those 90s fashion tips regardless of where you live. So stay young and stay chic with the 90s style now.

P.S: There are more than just this from the 90s fashion that are being recycled such as mom's jeans and knee-high socks. There's just too many and if you like to hear more about the 90s fashion. Let me know till then bye! :)
