Authentic Hong Kong Wonton Noodle @ Mak's Chee, 1 Utama

I grew up in a food heaven town, Ipoh where literally any bowl of noodles taste awesomely good. In other words, I grew up with a pretty picky taste buds.

I am sorry if I hurt any of your feelings but Kuala Lumpur/Selangor serves one of the worst bowls of wonton noodles. Ever since I left Ipoh, I rarely had a bowl of wonton noodle because the type of black sauce most hawker stalls used, the really oily soup, and the peanut size wontons always disappoints me. If the localized wonton noodles in KL is just as bad, what more can I say about the Hong Kong wonton noodle stalls in and around town.

Fortunately, I have found my wonton haven place, Mak's Chee Restaurant @ 1 Utama. They serve one of the best Hong Kong Wonton I have ever tried in town and back in my hometown. From the noodles, soup base to the full-size wonton. It was truly a humble bowl of noodle that was served at its most premium and finest quality.

Literally, hands down.

 Great place for single seaters.

MAK'S CHEE AUTHENTIC WONTON
Mak’s Chee Authentic Wonton was founded by Master Mak Woon Chee (Known as Chee) back in the 1920s in Guangzhou and it was one of the most famous noodle stalls across the city. Wonton noodles are well-known to be served with char siu but Chee believes that serving prawns wrapped with wonton skin is the way to go and he was right! Till date, prawn wontons are one of the most highly sought after options aside from the char siu served in Hong Kong restaurants.

MAK'S CHEE WONTON NOODLES
The soup was a clear broth boiled to perfection and as you sip it, the sweetness hits the taste buds at all the right spots. The noodles, they were fine like an angel's hair yet springy.

Prawn wonton lovers, this is THE place for a fresh and well-wrapped, goldfish-like prawn wonton. Juicy and filling to the max.

More of a meaty person? Well, beef lovers, you HAVE to try out their Beef Tendon Wonton Noodle. Because of the beef tendons, the flavor of the soup was enhanced tremendously.

They also have a dry base noodles served with dried prawn roe that comes with a slight tinge of spiciness. The overall taste is pretty unique as it is different from the conventional wonton noodles. If you are a roe lover, you should give this a try.

Disclaimer: picture shown above are not the original serving portion of the dry noodles

DEEP FRIED CHEESY WONTON
Now, to the most important part of this write-up, Mak's Chee recently revamped Hong Kong's goldfish-like wonton to Deep Fried Cheesy Wonton. This basket of deep fried cheesy wonton is stuffed with fresh sea prawns, mozzarella and cheddar cheese wrapped in wonton. This basket is the most flavorful yet sinful basket of wonton you can ever handle.

MUSCULAR CHAMPION MILK TEA
They even released their Hong Kong Milk Tea packed in a sexy muscular man. I love the Muscular Champion Milk Tea as the bitter-sweet flavor of the Ceylon tea was exquisite and aromatic. Sadly, to me, it wasn't the best drink option to have with or after an awesome bowl of clear broth wonton noodle as the Milk Tea somehow overshadows the aftertaste of the wonton soup.

I hate to break this to you but the Deep Fried Cheesy Wonton and Muscular Champion Milk Tea are only available from the 5th December 2016 till the 28th February 2017. So, try them out while they're still available or you'll regret it!

SUMMARY
It was a meal beyond satisfaction as every food and drink served at this place were made to perfection. The price of a bowl of noodles is a little pricey as compared to hawker stalls but it is worth the money as their sauces and the ingredients used are premium quality and the servings are pretty generous. To top that off, most of the sauces and ingredients (especially for the soup ingredients) are imported from Hong Kong. I've tried it, I love it and I will definitely come back here again.

My partner-in-crime ;)

TAKE ME HOME
Love the taste of their sauces or the dried prawn roe? You can buy them home to enhance your home-cook food too.
